H.E. Dr Erieka Bennett, Head and Founder of Diaspora African Forum, attended the 32nd African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit, on February 10, 2019, at Addis Ababa.
The theme for this year’s summit was held under 2019 theme; “The Year of Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to forced displacement in Africa”.
Among the responsibilities of the Assembly were as following:
- Determine the African Union’s policies.
- Establish policies.
- Adopt an annual programme and monitor the implementation of its policies and decisions.
The African Union’s new Chairperson, President Abdul Fattah Al- Sisi of Egypt called for the creation of more jobs, opportunities, and increased investments. The Chairperson also emphasized the need to resolve the ongoing challenge in Africa, particularly terrorism and extremism.
